Gross Anatomy of the Eye - Review
Figure 1 is a view of a section through the posterior wall of the eye. When trying to get oriented in the retina look for the dark choroid. In this figure the choroid is on the right. To the right of the choroid you will see the sclera, and to the left you will see the pigment epithelium.
Figure 2 is a view of a section through the macula section of the retina. The depression is the fovea of the macula. The fovea appears as a depression because all layers except the receptor layer and outer nuclear layer have been displaced radially. Locate the layers of the retina in the surrounding macular region. Also locate the cell soma of the receptor, horizontal, bipolar, amacrine and ganglion cells. Note that the image of the central area of the monocular visual field is focused on the fovea
