Lab 1 - Overview of the Nervous System

Cerebral Lobes - Limbic System

The limbic lobe, known as the limbic system, is a functional grouping of telencephalic structures that are located on the medial and inferior aspects of the brain. These limbic structures include: 1) cingulate gyrus; 2) parahippocampal gyrus (connects to the cingulate gyrus via the isthmus, i.e. "bridge"); 3) subcallosal gyrus (located immediately inferior to the rostrum of the corpus callosum), and 4) hippocampus (found deep in the parahippocampal gyrus and its medial extension the uncus).
