We spend the vast majority of our time trying to better understand the neuronal mechanisms and pathways involved with drug addiction. This is all made possible with rats. LOTS and LOTS of rats. They are oft-maligned and misunderstood, but our animals are incredibly gentle and lovable-huggable.
The lab's two diligent students (Pam and Gunjan) use the paradigm of behavioral sensitization as the rat model for addiction, spending every waking-minute conducting experiments. Pam spends most of her time studying methylphenidate (Ritalin), while Gunjan chooses to focus his efforts on ecstasy (MDMA). WOWEEEE!!!
