This is my second tour of duty (yeeehaaa!) in the world-renowned Dafny / Swann Lab.
Prior to re-joining the lab, I was an investment banking analyst for the now-defunct Robertson Stephens.
I am currently investigating the addictive potential of ecstasy, which is a pretty controversial topic. So far, my research indicates that ecstasy elicits behavioral sensitization (which is a commonly accepted rat-model for dependency). However, my data isn't as robust as the data our lab has collected for sensitization to methylphenidate (Ritalin) or amphetamine. Go figure...
In my spare time, I am working on a review of the existing literature pertaining to the various models of dependency to ecstasy. I am also boning up on attaining a better understanding of the molecular neuroadaptations that take place with the onset of addiction by doing various molecular analyses such as oligonucleotide microarrays and real-time quantitative PCR assays.
I will be starting med school this fall (August '04), with the hope of ultimately earning an MD and a PhD. I hope to maintain a strong relationship with this laboratory during my spare time, as both Dr. Dafny and Dr. Swann are incredibly nurturing and have provided me with every possible opportunity to advance my research interests.
I received my BA in Economics and Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania.
