Student Council
The
Neuroscience Student Council (NSC) is made up of students who are
affiliated with the GSBS Neuroscience Program. Each member volunteers
for or is elected to serve a one-year term on the NSC. Since the
Neuroscience Program includes students with a wide variety of research
interests and encompasses several different departments, the composition
of this NSC is intended to reflect this diversity. Therefore, the
NSC usually includes one of the following: one post-candidacy member,
one pre-candidacy member, one second-year member and one member
who is NOT part of the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy.
The
NSC's primary mandate is to act as an intermediary between the Neuroscience
Program students and its faculty. To this end, the NSC meets with
the Neuroscience Program student body at least twice per academic
year. During these semi-annual student meetings, issues concerning
the students and the Program are brought forward and discussed.
Potential improvements to the Program and its facilities are also
brought to light, and social events are planned. These issues, concerns
or proposed social events are collected by NSC members and then
brought to the attention of either the director of the Neuroscience
Program, Dr. Michael Mauk (email
- faculty page) or the Program faculty as a whole. The NSC also
meets with Dr. Mauk every two months to discuss any issues regarding
the program that he feels warrant or require student input. In this
way, the NSC attempts to keep coherent lines of communication open
between the Neuroscience students and faculty. |
