"Welcome to The Neuroscience Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston!

Neuroscience is one of the most rapidly advancing fields of scientific research today. Integrated research approaches from molecular and cellular neurobiology to behavioral and theoretical studies underlie the most significant research advances. Our Neuroscience Graduate Program promotes and encourages interdisciplinary research that crosses traditional discipline boundaries. The Neuroscience Program is an interdepartmental program that links basic science and clinical faculty throughout the University of Texas Health Science Center. The program was created in recognition that Neuroscience has grown beyond the borders of any single department.

The current Neuroscience Program faculty is a diverse group of about fifty investigators. Faculty research interests include cellular, molecular, developmental, genetic, systems, behavioral, neurological, and psychiatric approaches to the nervous system. Particular focus is directed toward understanding synaptic function, learning and memory, neuronal aging/degeneration, and visual pathways. Our faculty promote an exceptionally diverse learning environment, spanning more than 10 clinical and pre-clinical departments. Our program is highly regarded for its collegial atmosphere and the high level of collaborative interactions between its laboratories. The superb resources and the breadth of faculty interests provide our students with the experiences and background critical to defining their own professional interests and goals."
