Course Description

Directly or indirectly virtually all bodily functions come under CNS control. Consequently, in the course of seeing patients, the dentist will repeatedly encounter symptoms relating to the CNS. This course covers those aspects of the structure and function of the CNS essential for understanding neurologically-related clinical problems, including cranial nerve disorders, neurological syndromes, mechanisms of pain production and perception, and the neurophysiology of mastication and occlusion. At the conclusion of this course, the student should be prepared for detailed study of the medications affecting the nervous system, and for consulting with physicians with respect to patients suffering from neurological disease.
